Journey to Oshin’s Homeland Part 1: Yamadera

A world famous Japanese TV drama “Oshin” was set in Yamagata Prefecture. Win Morisaki, an actor from Myanmar visits the places where the drama was shot.

The history of Risshakuji Temple stretches back over a millennium. Visitors must climb 1,015 steps to the summit of a steep mountain slope along a path lined with temples of various sizes. Win offered a prayer at the Inextinguishable Dharma Light, a fire that has burned for 1,200 years, and is left spellbound at the breathtaking view that looks just like an ink painting.
