Born in Japan, Kawaii began as a simple concept of being cute. Now, Kawaii has evolved into a mindset, philosophy, and lifestyle that has become a global phenomenon. Kawaii culture knows no boundaries. No matter your age, race, gender, orientation, or religion, Kawaii culture can be applied to your life.
From our headquarters in Shibuya, our mission is to share the latest trends in fashion and pop-culture celebrating the message of Kawaii culture.
Watch, learn, and create.
Be yourself, be Kawaii!
Are you still recovering from the excitement of Mr Yabatan’s adventure in Osaka, in last week’s episode? Us too. It was pretty wild, but since when has that stopped us? We’re getting right back into it! Osaka’s independent art scene is lively and colorful, with an emphasis on colorful. Clothing, accessories, people, and even the food are bright and have pulled every color out of the crayon box. Colorful food might be a bit much for some… but we’ll it at that.
Plus, we join Emily Meow, the runner-up in the Kawaii Fashion Contest 2017, in Brighton and the Leipzig Book Fair for special Kawaii in Real Life. What makes it special? It’s Kawaii IRL, kawaii drag makeup tutorial, and a kawaii drag style makeover! Tens across the board! We always keep it at 100 here, at Kawaii International.
Kawaii International is a direct link to Tokyo, the most fashion forward city in the world.
On the first and second Friday of every month a new episode is uploaded to our FREE video-on-demand site. Be sure to visit the NHK World YouTube channel for sneak previews and exclusive content!
